everyone loves a good story.
Here’s mine…
Over the last decade, I’ve built a career in marketing by telling the stories of good brands and great people. I’ve been with the same agency since the beginning, working my way up from a scrappy intern, to a junior copywriter, to a mid-level creative, to a senior, to an ACD, and all the way up to my current position of Creative Director (still scrappy). Along the way, I’ve led teams, directed commercials, given countless presentations, helped our agency win new business, and written a whole lotta copy.
You could say I’ve worn a few different hats. But regardless of what metaphorical hat I’m wearing, it always comes down to one thing: storytelling.
For me, a good story is always about people, which is why you’ll see so many faces on my homepage. Stories don’t need to be complicated. They should usually be simple. But they should always say something true about being human. The best stories say something that the audience knows is true but, for whatever reason, hasn’t said out loud.
Marketing is storytelling. Period. Whether I’m building a campaign for a global corporation or crafting a brand for a corner store, I always lean into the principles of any good yarn: Do your research, push yourself outside your comfort zone, inspire and respect the people around you, focus on the craft, and make sure you’re having fun along the way.
